How can the people of a country protect their basic rights when theie government is trying to erode them?

The government of Trinidad is slowly eroding the basic rights of its people in the name of development.Many moves have been made for them to solidify themselvs in power.Our rights are being trampled on.How can we as a nation stop this wanna-be Idi Amin and his regime.They accused the previous regime of doing all sorts of underhanded things but they are practicing the same things they accused them of.Only they are doing it in a tenfold
